This year is the 31st anniversary of the festival. This season the faire was trying out something new-theme weekends. The village of New Market is celebrating Queen Katherine's birthday. The party's theme is left to the discretion of the Queen. This particularly fine weekend she chose the glories of ancient Rome. Therefore it was decreed that a Roman bachannal was in order along with other fine Italian treats. Many fine patrons dressed for the occasion and partook in a toga contest.

The previous description and all these wonderful images are brought to you by Frank Hui. Because of his devotion, I have nothing to add. --Robyn Sotherby

Always great to see a dragon

The morning sound off introducing

The King's players

Many foreign nobles have come to the village

and they're in a party mood

A glorious day for the anniversary of his lady's birth

Dignitaries from the Italian and German provinces are here

But it seems it's not her birthday

But she's willing to have an early celebration

So on with the festivities

of a Roman bacchanal

The King's players adapt themselves

And lead off the fun

The Italians are asked to conduct a dance that glorifies Rome

This one involves nude vestal virgins

They try a different number instead
