Greater St. Louis Renaissance Faire 2002 - Week 3: Page 2
What is a country to do when the head of the church is arrested? Participants in the Greater St. Louis faire may opt to become a member of Le Guilde du St. Denis (from their program): "The king is ordained by God, and only those ordained by God as leaders of the church are given close to the reverence as is bestowed to the king. The Cardinal of Lorraine, and his retinue, are also in Petit Lyon. They will be upholding the will of God, and selling indulgences to those who can't quite make it through the day without sin (but who can't?)." Hmmm... when it comes right down to it, it appears that Jean Ranault, Comte de Frasue has more power than the church :)
Oh, I've been meaning to mention this... The faire has this really, really neat scavenger hunt for kids entering the faire. The children get a "quest card" and need to find various people among the crowds of Petit Lyon. If they get a certain amount of stamps (as can be seen in one of the below images), they can take part in the knighting ceremony after the 3:00 joust. Drat! I forgot to get some images of that ceremony.
