Romance weekend at Scarby was quite the dichotomy. Saturday was very warm and very muggy. Sunday however was almost ideal. Isn't it amazing how, when the temperature drops 10 degrees and humidity by half, the enthusiasm just perks up? Got some shots of chessmatch which has returned to more basic format. No attachment to any story arc and a good mix of nice fight choreography and entertaining humor. Another thing that pleased me were some patrons that looked just "right". What I mean is that at any decent faire you'll find nice outfits, but it's hard to see someone dressed in something that is ideal in design and ideally suited to them. And those garb can be either clean and simple or complex and upscale. It's just too bad I didn't get a chance to photgraph them all.

The previous description and all these wonderful images are brought to you by Frank Hui. Because of his devotion, I have nothing to add. --Robyn Sotherby

Delia engaging in some pre-game manuevers before the king & queen arrive

Latimer takes on George Boleyn

He also clears away some pawns

Out of focus but I liked the shot

Alfred being outmanuevered by some coinage

Kit Rooke is a little harder to deal with

This promises to be quite a round

The battle starts to get intense

Not a bad shot, eh, with my trusty manual camera

These two are pretty evenly matched

Getting rid of more pieces. This lass should know better than to oppose Delia

These two are actually duking it out to see who gets to tangle w/Delia

Lady Dorothy seems at first glance out of her depth

But she manages quite well

And then some!

Seymour keeps trying to get Latimer to yield

It proves quite trying for both men

Smee bracing herself against an intoxi-, I mean an invigorated Natasha

Don Filipe takes great pleasure enaging Delia-as any man would

Victory comes down to the blow from a mighty cricket bat(?)
