One of the interesting events at the Southern faire is their daily battle pageant. A spectacular battle between English soldiers and their allies versus hardy group of Irish fighters. At stake is a question of honor and who owns the field. Apparently, 1 of the English was allegedly shot by an Irishman. Well you can imagine the state of mind both sides are in with that scenario.

The previous description and all these wonderful images are brought to you by Frank Hui. Because of his devotion, I have nothing to add. --Robyn Sotherby

Setting the tone of the day

The military procession begins

An air of tension is about

First group of soldiers

The royal guardsmen

Anxious nerves lead to a premature start

These Irish warriors have good reason to be tense

Both sides are upset and want satisfaction

The English forces are formidable looking

The opposing side looks pretty tough too

Muskets first

Pike formations advance

Likewise for these "upstart farmers"

The engagements are rough
