Here's my final photo essay for the year 2000. And what an adventure it was! I experienced lots of wonderful events and raucous parties. This all took place on an island that was filled with soothing tropical breezes and a surreal & laid back culture. I bought lots of cool piratical toys and met new people and had a reunion, sort of in the twilight zone, with a number of performers who normally do ren faires. With my love of singing pirates, it was very appropriate to close out this busy season with this fantastic pirate festival in Key West with my favorite group The Corsairs.
Why am I such a devoted fan and friend to a smelly bunch of pirates? (Their description not mine) The more distinctive acts, such as The Flaming Idiots, Ded Bob, The Rogues and Sound & Fury, all have within them a special quality that's apparent even at the beginning of their careers. The Corsairs have always had such a quality that I like to refer to as an "elegant synergy". They are able to blend together to produce an exquisite, often breathtaking sound. This vocal chemistry, backed up by high personal musical standards and arrangements, has been central to what makes them distinct.
The other reason I guess relates to being a fan from the start. For over 5 years, I've archived their development from their beginnings as A capella singers, to a full blown musical/comedy act, to a successful crossover group in the celtic music scene that has won over thousands of fans. It's given me a great deal of pleasure to watch them evolve. It's also great that, as far as they've come, these guys still come up with new songs/arrangements that push themslves artistically and delightfully surprise the fans.
               I hope you all enjoy.

Anon and good days,
Frank Hui
