Austin Dragon Boat Festival's Official Site
My friend and I helped out at 1 of the tables at the 10th annual Dragon Boat Festival. It takes place along Ladybird lake, formerly Town Lake. This is a nice event to participate in.
Such festivals are uncommon in the US. They are an old Chinese tradition that honors a Prime Minister Qu Yuan, punished and exiled for being a man who opposed force and violence, and the people who rallied to try and save him. This event is
organized by the Asian American Community Partnership and Asia American Cultural Center.
