9-23-07                After battling a bad virus I have finally got the last of my DragonCon pics up and I can post my thoughts on this year's convention.                1) Atlanta has plenty of nice places to check within walking distance of the convention hotels. It's worth arriving early or stayer later to check them out. The Aquarium was definitely akin to a religious experience.                2) A big event like DragonCon really is the wrong place to break in a new camera.                3) Steampunk is way too cool. Since being introduced to the concept, I have been utterly fascinated                4) I miss Brett Hill                5) This year was much more attended than last. The strain of it became apparent Saturday night w/ all the scheduled parties and concerts taking place only at the Hyatt. Social events need to be spread out between all 3 hotels in the future.                6) Interestingly enough the 300 were not the big trend this year at the con. It was a different warrior brand. Wonder Woman seemed very popular. The most original versions I missed sadly. The only one missing was the Cathy Lee Crosby version                7) There's a handful of great costumes I saw but couldn't photograph including the "300 lb Guys", the women from Mummy Returns and 1 group that re-enacted the Dr Who episode, "The Empty Child"                8) It may be time to revitalized the Masquerade. I heard very little positive commentary about it this year. Likewise it probably would nice to give greater promotion to the smaller/niche contests.                9) The convention has many interesting events that are not typical and deserve attention. The independent short film festival displays an excellent array of international work.                10) The event leaves me both elated & sadden as a brief time I get to bond with some lovely people who live far away from me. 9-18-07                It took a while but I have the remainder of the Saturday images up. Again please excuse the graininess of some of the pics. It takes time to break in a new camera. 9-13-07                This is the first part of the Saturday shots-there's a BIG mess of them. For now the parade and all in good natural light 9-11-07                Whew! Finally got Friday shots of Dragon Con up. Again please forgive the graininess. That's what I get for taking so many indoor shots without the flash 9-09-07                My first round of images from the 21st annual DragonCon. Or rather shots leading up to it. My friends and I arrived a day early and decide to exploit what Atlanta had to offer.                This was my first chance to make use of my brand new digital camera, the CyberShot, a medium range instrument from Sony. Sadly can't quite afford an SLR grade. Anyway being my first digital camera, I am still in the midst of mastering it. Sadly a number of the shots dont quite live up to standards. Try to overlook the flaws. Not a bad toy. it's got some nice features but I still prefer film and a manual instrument. 5-01-07                My first time out to the 44th annual Eeyore's Birthday. Different the renaissance faires yet not so different. A wild hippie event that fits the Austin personality to a tee. 2-14-07                An incredible evening with the Corsairs during a live recording concert. Anon and good days, |
