During my week in New York, my friend Don and I got a chance to head out to Alexandria Bay near the border to do a water tour of part of the 1000 Islands on the St Lawrence seaway. We ended up at 2 island castles. First was the Singer Castle on Dark Island. This place was owned by self made millionaire Frederick Bourne of the Singer Sewing Company. The place is lavish and kept up with tours, hidden treasures and secret passages. The other is Boldt Castle on Heart Island (originally Hart). The castle was intended as a testament of George Boldt for the love of his wife, Louise. Sadly this lavish and complicated estate's construction was halted after her untimely death.

The previous description and all these wonderful images are brought to you by Frank Hui. Because of his devotion, I have nothing to add. --Robyn Sotherby
