2004 marks the 35th annual San Diego Comic Book Convention or Comic-Con. This is a grand 4 day event that is part shopping expedition, part trade show, part cinema showcase-ALL Playful Fantasy. A time where all genres merge (but hopefully don't collide) and a chance to indulge one's inner child for a brief yet incredible, jam-packed moment. How else to describe a weekend where you get to hear Ray Bradbury reflect on his life yet witness the appearance of the next great talent, compare assets with Superman and Pikachu, get a hug from Snoopy as well as Vampirella, buy the coolest action figure, be the coolest action figure, be on the lookout for stars or battle amongst them. That's a pretty good way to spend 3 days. Hey I even managed a little sightseeing.

The previous description and all these wonderful images are brought to you by Frank Hui. Because of his devotion, I have nothing to add. --Robyn Sotherby

They were inspiring as subjects

A pair of Star Wars entries for the contest

A Mad Love Harley Quinn

DC Comics awarded her a special prize for best recreation of a DC char

A different interpretation

The Lucas pavilion awarded them the best recreation of a Star Wars character

There were anime entries of course

As well as fantasy such as Lord of the Rings

An elegant Raven from Teen Titans

This sexy droid could barely see anything

This Dr Who/Judge Dredd combo was original

An impressive Hellboy entry

Surge of Power

A close up shot of the suit

Don't know what it is, but we liked it

Forget who this group was. But they looked great. And the one in white does have hooves.

The entries covered many genres

The Anime Pavillion awarded favorite anime entry to this group for Legend of Zelda

As an HP Loveraft fan, I dug this Pickman's Model

I didn't know the reason for this mix of the 2 hero groups
