The first weekend of March marked the 21st annual North Texas Irish Festival. It's held in Fair Park the annual site of the Texas State Fair. The event has been 1 of the largest events of its kind in the nation-definitely the largest in the southwest. This year's fest was a little leaner. The previous 2 seasons were a little rough with the weather-heavy rains 1 years, ice and snow the other. In fact there was a debilitating ice storm just a few days prior this year. However the event was still a good one with a fair number of pleasing acts and interesting vendors. The weather even managed to get reasonable with a little sunlight.

This ride caught my attention, The Trash Can Choo-Choo

Here are representatives of the Ulster Project. They try to promote peace and understanding between youths in Ireland.

This re-enactor booth is manned by a Union Veterans group. They had many period miltary equipment on display

Also appearing at the fest was Beyond the Pale, another group from Texas that displayed a nice variety of songs

Jed Marum, another folk singer from north Texas who is an accomplished presence in the Celtic circuit.

Ed Miller had a very pleasing style on stage

That evening my friends and I watched Lunasa. They were talented and energetic.

A new group, Bigger Dogs, played jigs and reels on electric guitars and base.

The Irish Rogues, 1 of the oldest celtic acts in north Texas and a longstanding presence in the pub scene.

1 of the highlights of the fest, Cathie Ryan. Formerly of Cherish the Ladies, she has an absolutely captivating voice and an excellent band backing her up.

Well, it was the weekend before Mardi Gras

Jonathon & Becky

Another headliner, Bohola. They played with great passion.

Also on hand were The North Texas Caledonian Pipes & Drums

This is Spot and Albert. They are a couple of capable musicians who use a lot of sarcastic banter.

Ended the weekend by watching the Corsairs. They presented some new songs (and some grapes) that went over extremely well.

Patsy & Frasier, a couple of beautiful people manning Corsairs merchandise

Basses Robbie & Kevin

Baritones David & BJ

Tenors Gregg & Scott
