The first weekend of March marked the 21st annual North Texas Irish Festival. It's held in Fair Park the annual site of the Texas State Fair. The event has been 1 of the largest events of its kind in the nation-definitely the largest in the southwest. This year's fest was a little leaner. The previous 2 seasons were a little rough with the weather-heavy rains 1 years, ice and snow the other. In fact there was a debilitating ice storm just a few days prior this year. However the event was still a good one with a fair number of pleasing acts and interesting vendors. The weather even managed to get reasonable with a little sunlight.

The first act I saw in the morning was Constant Billy, a nice, amusing group with the occasional surprising number

Of course I had to see The Corsairs. Their Saturday show had 1 of the biggest crowds of the whole event. Standing room only.

This is Cavan. I heard them do some nice instrumental pieces

Jiggernaut also appeared with their charged celtic rock sound

The guys bouncing around during a fast number. That's why the pic is blurry

EJ Jones sat in with them on this performance

The WA Petersen String Shop set up a booth to sell guitars and bouzoukis

Directly across was Hudson Hammered Dulcimers

Michael Harrison, an engaging folk singer who has worked with many reknown celtic artists

This is Cast Paper Artwork. They had some really noteworthy pieces of sculpture.

A number of Scottish clans also had booths

They were designated in their own section

Many booths were set up for a cultural section including these Civil War re-enactors

Roger Harrison, Mike Price, David Sparks of The Blarney Brothers. They returned from a 4 month break.

Matt Williams, Steve Harrison, Randy Christian. The band premiered several new songs

Jigsaw, 1 of the local Texas group that maintain traditional Celtic music
