May 18th marked an Irish wake of sorts. The Emerlad Mist Pub just north of Dallas would be closing its doors that weekend. In the past 3 years this pub had quickly
become a favorite venue of many major celtic acts from across the country. This was largely due to the spirit and attitude of the owners Bruce and Patti. They treated their artists with respect, regard and love.
They presented an air of openness with professionalism, doing what they could to make the performers welcome, comfortable and valued. There were even many times they'd go so far as putting up artists in their own home.
Acts as diverse as Brother, 7 Nations, The Paperboys (from Vancouver), the Blarney Brothers, Great Big Sea and Clandestine were booked at the 'Mist. Even major fair performers like the Rogues and the Corsairs had gigs there.
In spite of this, the economy proved too great of a hurdle to overcome. The closing leaves a huge void in the local music scene that will be hard to fill. For even if someone came out with a new pub to showcase acts, they would have big shoes to fill.
