One of things aspects of this faire I found rather impressive was their chessmatch. Performed twice a day,it not only has the standard fill of excellent stunts but it contains interesting shades of grey to its plot plus amusing little moments that occur outside the action. The plot revolves around Count Marco, Senator of the Republic of Venice, a proud and yet naive man whose bride has been kidnapped along with her dowry of very profitable lands. She was taken by Lord Alaric, Baron of Saxony, a ruthless and charming machiavellian, who takes great pleasure at pushing the Count's buttons.

The previous description and all these wonderful images are brought to you by Frank Hui. Because of his devotion, I have nothing to add. --Robyn Sotherby

Christophe approaches sister Anna Maria

She doesn't take to it well

What can we say, he touched her

First Mate Edward deals with the Marquis

More games and taunting

until we have a victory

Marco finally allows his sister to be part of the combat. Of course look who she's facing

It is quite a challenge

She puts up a pretty good fight

But the Baroness is too much for her

Alaric offers to free Marcella if Marco will face him personally in a final duel

Our proud, irate Count accepts

Alaric outmanuevers him

Ooh, here's a coven for you

The Baron gives Marco another chance & prove his motives are pure. If the Count wins he will sign over the dowry after the wedding

I think we have a red flag on the field

Things are touch and go

but Marco prevails and demands he be brought his bride

And what a incredible, uh, prize she turns out to be

Well to the victor...
