I fear I've been awfully neglegent with my duties toward updating the Roost for this season at Bristol. While I could make a ton of excuses and explanations, I think most people involved with faire understand that some years things just happen too quickly. This summer seems to have melted away (pun intended as reference to the horrendous heat wave we encountered). And, four days from the time I'm writing this, school will once again be in session... admist teaching, I'll be whiling away the time waiting to return to the dusty streets of Bristol. Until then, we have memories; hopefully, this meager offering will keep the 2001 season forever enshrined. With apologies for not offering more, and gratitude for continuing fellowship in and out faire....

On August 18th, 2001, a very special thing happened to me (other than the fact that it was exactly one month after my birthday). Andrea and I began dating sometime at the beginning of March in the year 2000. From that point on, we've been the best of friends. While I can think of many people that I hope to remain friends with until my dying day, I can think of no one else that I would like to come home to every one of those days. On this day, at faire, I proposed to Andrea. It had to be at faire. We met at faire, share a love for the fellowship and splendor that is faire, and continue to relish in the magic that can only happen at faire. Thank you to all that wished us well and blessed our engagement. It was a very special day, made even more special by Andrea beaming as she showed off her ring.... Speaking of the ring, that's a story I'll have to share some time.

Let me see if I can describe the moment. It happened about noon in an open area near the Dirty Duck Inn. A small group of friends had gathered around, and I attempted to address the audience. Of course, Andrea, not realizing what was going on, decided to "help me out" in entertaining the crowd -- completely interrupting my humble words. Finally, as I grasped her shoulders and looked her in the eye, the dawn of recognition overwhelmed her. She said she nearly feinted. I got down on my knee.

I can't remember the words I said exactly before I asked, "Will you marry me?" That's because I was nervous. I was shaking tremendously and I'm surprised that I was able to get the ring on her finger when she said, "Yes." Actually, I did have trouble putting it on her finger, I went for the wrong hand... she corrected me with a none too soft whisper of, "Other hand." Oops.

Unfortunately for her, she couldn't see the ring at that point. Just as a couple of rain drops fell from the sky, a waterfall emitted from her eyes. She said the only thing she could make out was that there was, in fact, a ring there and it was sparkly.

Again, thank you to everyone who congratulated us... and no, Randall, I'm afraid I haven't messed up thus far. :)

The wedding will be held on June 14th, 2003.

We planned it then because we sure as heck didn't want to interfere with faire. Not because we think faire is more important than our vows, but because we would like many of our friends to be there without any other obligation. Understandably, rehearsals will be that weekend, but the reception will be after that!

The wedding will be held in Kenosha. And to answer the number one assumption, it will NOT be a renaissance wedding. As much as we love the faire, it has to be put down for some other things. Nonetheless, we hope it will be a spectacular event, made all the better by the presence of our family from Bristol and elsewhere. Please, keep the date open.
