Bristol Renaissance Faire 2000

Just in case you're looking for the latest update... click here.

08-21-00

Well, this is it. The last update to Robyn's Roost for awhile. The Bristol Renaissance Faire 2000 season has come to an end and glorious weather graced us this past weekend. I'm afraid my goal of obtaining an image of each person in the cast list was not completed. Hopefully, some will send images of those who are missing (with photo credit, of course). Much of this weekend was spent taking images of the costume contest and mingling with friends, so the record of the ending festivities doesn't come even close to representing the good time that was had. And now, we leave you until next season as we pack up our garb and prepare for a new series of adventures outside of Bristol's gates.

08-14-00

4:07pm: The newest 80 images from the eigth weekend are on display!
3:26pm: Oh bloody Heck! Ran into some technical difficulties, the update is coming.
11:10am: Alrighty. I'm getting up to loading the 80 new images from the past weekend. Before viewing that, p'raps you might want to click on over to the "Other Adventures" section of the ole Roost to see the journey taken to New Orleans last week by Andrea and I. See you soon!

08-06-00

This week's update boasts only two pages of images. Rain and anticipation for an adventure to New Orleans halted much of my picture taking this week. Still, the weekend was fun despite the poor weather. We shall see you all next week!

With great apologies, I have a correction to make to the last few pages of updates. It was not Christopher Blount who was inducted into the order of Garter Knights, it was Sir Charles Blount. My mistake, my error. I beg humble apologies for the confusion. I still have to make the appropriate changes to the text of the offending pages, however, please let this serve as notice of my mistaken fingers.

2:13pm The cast list for this week has been updated. Most of the updates are within the various performers pages, but I do have images that need some identification. Can anyone please help with the Royal Brass? For future awareness, just this day I was sent an updated list for the Guild of St. George, it may take me a few days to organize it properly with full titles and proper order of station, but it's gonna happen!
1:54pm The first three pages of images are posted of this weekend. It was wet out and rather cool. Sir Christopher Blount was made a Garter Knight, Gabriel was thrown in the stocks, and the second semi-final contest was held in the rain. The first three pages of images are posted at this time. Be back soon.

07-24-00

6:05am Today I got an early start... or is it: Yesterday, I got a pretty late start? Either way, the three pages of images taken from the fifth weekend at Bristol have been posted and the cast list should be updated before too long. Enjoy the pictures, thanks for the laughs!

07-19-00

3:22pm The cast list has been updated thanks to the help of very many people. I can't express how much I appreciate all the effort and support everyone has been giving me here at Robyn's Roost. This is also kind of a birthday response for myself. As yesterday was my birthday, I was quite overwhelmed with all of the greetings received. If it is true that added years are bestowed upon those that possess great friendships, I shall be enjoying many more birthdays with a great bunch of people. This past year has been a blessing in my life. While I do not believe my humble efforts here are an ample display of the heartfelt emotion I carry for being accepted into this community, I do hope that I can continue to bring an amount of pleasure through visual memory of the hard work and good times we have come to know in this life together! Thank you again!

07-17-00

7:47 Updated what I know of the cast list. Now I need to ask for help again! Please note that on the identification page, I've enlarged the thumbnail images so they should be easier to see. The size on the cast list pages is currently the same. I dunno know if I should change that to a bigger size or not. Suggestions?
2:27 Four pages of images of Robyn's Weekend Walkabouts are posted. Hop into "week 4" to read what it's all about. Next on the agenda is updating the cast list and a page of candids from Frank.
12:17 Just a wee bit past noon, images of the action sequence between the Seadogs and The Household of Sir Edward Coke that appears at 4:30 on the Chesire Chase Action Theatre by Frank Hui have been posted.
10:25 I'm up. Goin' to grab some breakfast and a Mountain Dew and start with the uploading. The first thing I'll be working on is a series of images that Frank Hui took during the three days he came from Texas to enjoy the faire at Bristol. See ya again once they're posted. Oh, there's some e-mail I must respond to as well, so the first image updates might be around noon or so.

07-11-00

Alright, so I fell asleep yesterday before I was able to finalize Robyn's Roost to my liking. It's all complete now with the cast list pages updated. They are filling up quite nicely, although I still have a long ways to go. Thanks to all of your help, I'm confident that this isn't going to be an unaccomplishable feat. And... speaking of thanks, check out the Identification Help page. There are close to fifty likenesses that need to be identified this week. I feel terrible that there are some upon that page I SHOULD know; however, I just want to be certain before I post names to faces. Again, your help is greatly appreciated. Oh, and I fear that I may have taken some images of folks that were visitors and posted them there. I apologize for that screw up!
And, one more thing, if the image posted in this program is unpleasing, please catch me so I can rectify that! Thanks for the smiles!

07-10-00

5:42pm: Six pages of images are posted of the third weekend of Bristol. Methinks I'm going to take a break before getting to the cast list images and request for help. For now, enjoy the pics posted!!!
3:23pm: Images from a faire wedding are now posted under Week 3. Many Friends of Faire attended the wedding of John and Angel, and these pages just go to show the comradarie and romance that the faire holds. Time for me to take a lunch break before loading up a bunch of pages of the old fashion weekly walk around updates.
2:30pm: Costume contest pictures are uploaded and linked (I hope). Page 1 contains the peasant class. Page 2, middle and noble classes. Page 3 has a few miscellaneous images and the winners!
1:30pm: Dear Lord, I've got more images this past weekend than what I had thought. They have gone through the first round of organization and I am going to being uploading the series taken of the first semi-final costume contest.
11:00am: Here I go with the beginnings of making the updates. First on the list is organizing the 150 pictures I took this weekend. This weekend many updates and corrections need to be made, so I think I'll be in front of my computer most of the day. This'll be fun. First note of stuff, would you believe I was dehydrated on Sunday morning. That's the first time that's ever happened to me. Wow!

06-26-00

Opening weekend has come and gone. And, it's time for another slew of weekly updates from the Bristol Renaissance Faire. This year, I'm going to strive for something a wee bit different with the organization of the site. First to make note of, is that I will not portray any events not related to the open hours of the faire. Any adventures that I may capture after the last cannon fires shall be placed in the Other Adventures section of Robyn's Roost. Also, for last year's visitors, you'll remember I had attempted to distinguish images of the faire events from images of people. The reason for this division was simply because my greatest hope is to give a glimpse of the faire. I've always found it difficult to get a sensation of a place while peering through the shoulders of people I don't know. However, I do like to capture images of people living their life. Isn't that what it's all about, after all... memories. While I'll be making those distinctions when necessary, I didn't grab many images of the latter this past weekend and just included them in the gallery.
Still, this year you'll notice the addition of "2000 Program." I've got a pretty grandiose plan that I'm not certain if I'll be able to accomplish... but, I'm sure going to try to. I'll talk more about that later.

        Anon and good days,
        Robyn Sotherby

Regarding "The Program"

In an effort to focus my picture taking, I've endeavored to use the printed program of the Bristol Renaissance Faire to come up with a list. Since making the cast list web worthy last week, I've learned that there will be another edition printed, and so the one to the right is not entirely up-to-date. I also fear that I may have made some errors in typing and may portray some misspellings. As electronic media is a heck of a lot easier to correct the printed form, I pray that you all will help keep this program current and error free.
My goal this year is to really try to capture an image of everything and everyone involved with the faire in an almost yearbook like fashion. Sometimes I wonder how long the web will last and personal web pages will be allowed to exist upon the web service I'm using. If indefinitely, just think about the fact that great-great-great grandchildren may visit these pages and see the glory of Bristol at the beginning of the Twenty-first Century! However, I also know that some do not like their images posted for the world to see. If, for any reason this applies, please let me know and I'll be certain to remove any image which causes distress. Also, if you are not pleased with the image I have posted, corrections can easily be made.
I hope this effort is enjoyed. I know it is a grand venture, and coupled with a few other things I'd like to do with the site this year (as well as otherwise), I'm not certain how far I'll get. Hopefully, with the continued help others have given me in the past... this goal will be reached. Of course, if you have any comments or suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Pass me an e-mail.
