Site Description
Site Information
In the early Spring of 1999, I thought to travel to some Renaissance Faires that I hadn't been to before. Unfortunately, it was difficult to decide where I wanted to go because the official websites of the various faires didn't give a really good perspective on what to expect upon arrival and most of the pictures I saw were only of people. With this site I hope to present a pictoral perspective of the faires I've been to, while keeping the ability to share my personal memories with those I care deeply for. This site began as more or less a simple picture gallery. Yes, it is very image intensive and slow connections will find loading times to be of great length. Hopefully you will believe the wait is worth it. Since the initial pages that I put up, this site has grown with the help of other photographers, those whose photographs have been captured, and, of course, visitors to this site. Thank you, friends, for the memories, your company and your talents.

Organization and Layout
          1) Main Index (Home) Page
The main index page is updated with a little note each time any area of the site is updated. The links on the right side of the page will take you to the image gallery of the respective faires. For galleries that are visited regularly, I've developed an individual start page. This is so those only interested in viewing updates to one particular faire may set a bookmark for that page.
At this point, of the six faires presented at Robyn's Roost, I have only attended half of them. For the ability to present these other faires I have not yet attended, I am again thankful to those who have submitted images. I hope that I have given sufficient credit where it is due so that it is understood that I am not responsible for every picture upon this site.

          2) Individual Start Pages
It is important to keep in mind that I have no official involvement with any of the faires that I have posted images of here. Robyn's Roost is an unofficial site with the hopes to share memories and give an overall pictoral perspective of certain faires. It is also my own humble attempt to give back to a community that has given me a warm reception. To those ends, I continuously seek new ways to improve upon the individual start pages. I think it is of a great benefit to get as many pictoral perspectives of each faire as are willfully offered. Therefore, I have made the invitation to post images taken by others. I have tried very hard to adequately credit those submissions in order to distinguish them from my own images.
When one of the "start" pages is viewed, take a look around. They should be easily navigated. At the top, clicking the "Robyn's Roost" graphic will take viewers to the Home Page. The left side of the page is reserved for comments and updates to that faire's gallery. The right side holds the links to the image collections. The pages which hold images taken by me constitute the top part of that column. I link pages of others' images below that listing their name or persona. If a person sends me enough images to warrant a multiple pages, I will either list those pages below their name, or, in the case of Bristol, link to the first page and allow viewers to navigate the pages from there. Of course, viewers may always come to this page to see a complete listing of all viewable pages.
Finally, the bottom of the start page has links back to the Homepage, my links page, this page, as well as the webrings and such I have joined. Most importantly is the link to my e-mail address. If you ever see anything in need of correction whether it be a broken link, a typo, a misspelled name, or any other gross error: please let me know! I am happy to receive constructive critism and comments. And, if I have an image of you that you don't want available for public consumption, I will remove it. I also have a registration form which uses your e-mail to forward your e-mail address to me. Everytime I update this site, I send out an update. The update sometimes includes other interesting information as well. I pray you will let me add you to this list with the full knowledge that your e-mail address remains confidential and is never sold.

          3) Gallery Pages
With the gallery pages I have tried to give small captions to go along with the pictures and keep the pages to about sixteen (16) images each. The title of the gallery page will give credit to whom the pictures were given to me by. If there is no credit, you may assume the pictures were taken by me.
On the gallery pages you should also find an external link to the official site of the faire. If the headline text makes comments about something that warrants an external link, I attempt to provide that as well. Throughout the site, I have attempted to denote external links with a little griffin symbol. This is so you are aware of whether or not I'm sending you away or just to another segment of Robyn's Roost.
Again, please inform me of necessary corrections. I try very hard to be accurate, but sometimes I make mistakes. I hold the utmost respect for everyones' images that I post. If I misspell a name, or altogether tack a wrong name to someone or something, I would like to be able to correct as soon as possible. Also, if you think you have a better caption for one of the pictures shown here, let me know and I'll be happy to consider it (with accreditation, of course).

Images
          1) Format
Most, if not all, of the images I have posted were taken with a Sony digital something or other (Mavica FD-81, Mavica FD-71, or TRV-110), fine mode resolution. I can not speak for the pictures I have posted of others. I do not crop my images for the sake for both the sake of efficiency and consistency. I understand that some of the images may treat their subjects better if they are cropped; however, having the picture in raw format will let each individual user to decide what to do with it.
Obviously, the above remarks do not necessarily hold true for images sent to be by others. Due to the fact that Xoom offers unlimited space, I have posted almost every image that has been sent to me. Since I also typically provide links to the submitter's e-mail addy, you can always e-mail the person with comments or questions regarding those images.

          2) Image subjects
I do not always have expressed permission from the subjects in my pictures to post them here. However, if anything appears slightly offense or embarassing, I do make sure the subject is aware of my intentions. As stated earlier, if I have offended someone by posting (or not posting) a picture, let me know as soon as possible so that I might rectify the problem. I hope everyone understands that it not my intention to hurt anyone in anyway, but I also understand that my sensibilities of propriety may differ from another's. I'd like to believe I'm very easy and flexible to work with... especially in this small effort.

          3) Use of the pictures posted here
In this great age of instant technology and widespread dissemination, I'm sure most everyone is aware of the copyright laws. My belief is that the pictures I take are meant to be shared. If you would like to use these pictures for your own benefit for whatever reason, I have no problem with that. Of course, I wouldn't mind knowing what you would might use the images for. I have never declined anyone the use of one of my images here, as a matter of fact, I am ecstatic that they may be used elsewhere! Credit may be given to Robyn Sotherby.
This policy is only extended to MY images. I can not give that authorization for the images that I'm hosting here for others and I hope it is understood that images are considered intellectual property. If you wish to use another person's image on this site, I beg you to contact them for their authorization.

About Me
Although I believe you are more interested in viewing the pictures, not learning about me personally, at the time of this writing I have begun a section entitled "Other Adventures." In this section, Robyn's Roost provides more image memories from non-faire events that ren-folk have been involved with. In those pages, I also have begun crossing the line and giving a little more of glimpse into the world of Robyn Sotherby. Furthermore, I strive to return to the degree I receive, try it out... e-mail me :). If you are curious as to exactly who I am, there is a link to show pictures of me. If you would like to know anything else, let's move it to e-mail, k?
